Best turkey vests with seats: kickstands, recliners and cushions for a first season

We haven't sat in, worn or hunted with any of these vests. We read each maker's page (dealer spec copy for the Tenzing, whose own product page couldn't be read) on 2026-09-22 and scored every vest on the rubric in our published First-Season Score: seat and back support 25%, call and shell storage 25%, weight 20%, quiet materials 15%, size range 15%.

This page is for the buyer who wants the seat, so it ranks by the seat and back support score first and the overall score second. That puts the two frame seats on top, then the flip-down seats, then the cushions. Three kinds of vest seat

“Turkey vest with a seat” covers three quite different things:

• A kickstand or frame seat. Legs and a frame hold you upright with a backrest, so you can sit where there's no good tree. The ALPS Grand Slam uses a removable “sit-anywhere” kickstand frame; the Tenzing TR18 is a recliner with spring-loaded aluminum legs.
• A flip-down seat with a backrest. A seat that flips down when you sit and folds away when you walk, with a backrest built into the vest. The Impact Pro pads it with 1 in molded foam on aluminum stays; the Impact keeps it light.
• A seat cushion. A removable foam pad that keeps you off wet ground, with the tree as your back. The Super Elite 4.0 has a 2.5 in cushion; the Traditions a 3 in memory foam one.

A kickstand doesn't replace a wide tree

A kickstand's job is to give you a backrest where there's no tree to lean on: a field edge, open timber, a fence line. It isn't a reason to sit away from a good tree when one is there, because the tree does something the seat can't.

The two frame seats: Grand Slam vs TR18

The Grand Slam scores 7.1 and the TR18 7.0, and the TR18 is the lighter vest, so here is plainly what separates them.

The Grand Slam has a removable kickstand frame with adjustable, fast-locking legs and swivel feet that ALPS says “prevent sinking,” and a memory foam fold-away seat. ALPS names 11 pockets, including a silent box call pocket, a removable diaphragm pocket, two slate call pockets, a striker pocket that holds three strikers and a larger locator call, a locator pocket and a smartphone sleeve, plus five shell loops and a large game bag. It comes in Standard (waist up to 48 in) and X-Large (waist 48 to 58 in), and it's heavy: 7 lb 2 oz with the frame, 4 lb 10 oz without (Standard).

The TR18 has a structured internal aluminum frame, spring-loaded adjustable aluminum legs, a dual-layer foam seat and a channeled, air-cooled padded backrest. The dealer spec tables list 10 compartments and 5 organization pockets, including an angled box call pocket, dual pot call compartments for up to four calls, quick-tack striker pockets and a zippered front compartment with seven shell loops, in 3,200 cu in at 5 lb 4 oz. That's 1 lb 14 oz lighter than the Grand Slam with its frame.

The Grand Slam ranks first because its specs are the maker's own and complete: two sizes with published waist ranges, weights with and without the frame, and ALPS's lifetime defect warranty. Tenzing's product page couldn't be read, the TR18's specs come from two dealers, and no size range is published. If you can confirm it fits you, the TR18 is a fine choice and the lighter carry. Flip-down seats: Impact Pro and Impact

Both score 6.3. The Impact Pro ranks ahead on the seat: a 1 in molded, ergonomic foam flip-down seat on dual aluminum stays, 17 x 16 in with a 19 x 17 in backrest, that ALPS says is ideal for long sits. The seat can also flip around to support weight in the game bag. It has eight gear pockets including an oversized rear storage pocket, molded front pockets with MOLLE webbing, and a removable box call pocket and ThermaCELL pocket that mount on either front panel. The Impact is the lighter take: 3 lb 11 oz in Standard and 2 lb 14 oz in Small, 1 lb 5 oz lighter than the Pro in Standard. Its seat folds away or detaches, and the Standard includes a magnet to hold it up while you walk. ALPS lists a 17.5 x 15.5 in seat and a 20.5 x 17.5 in backrest (Standard), but doesn't call either padded, which is why it scores lower on the seat. It carries a silent box call pocket, a slate pocket for two pot calls and three strikers, three diaphragm pockets and a removable front pocket with its own shoulder strap. It's the lightest vest on this page with a backrest, and the Small is the one ALPS calls “ideal for youth and smaller frames.” It stops at Standard; there's no XL.

Cushion seats: Super Elite 4.0 and Traditions

If you'll always sit against a tree, a cushion is all the seat you need, and it's the lightest way to carry one. The Super Elite 4.0 pairs a removable 2.5 in fold-away seat on quick-release buckles with 22 pockets, a quiet cotton liner and a 3 lb 1 oz weight (Medium/Large). It ranks fourth here only because this page ranks the seat first.

The Traditions is the budget-minded seat vest: a strap vest with a removable 3 in memory foam seat, the thickest published cushion on this page, at 2 lb 6 oz, with a waist that adjusts from 40 to 61 in. It has no frame and no molded pockets, which keeps the build simple; compare current prices with the buttons. Two run-and-gun vests with seats are ranked with the general vests instead: the Knight & Hale Run N' Gun 200 (1.5 lb, removable six-layer cushioned seat) and the Avian-X Ridge Runner (2 in foam seat and padded back, sizes to 3XL, weight not published).

A seat vest, or a vest and a chair?

None of the six makers here publishes a weight rating for its seat. Chair makers do. The ALPS Vanish, a low turkey chair with arms and a 21 in backrest, is rated to 300 lb, weighs 7 lb, and sits 8 in high at the front and 5 in at the back, low enough to set against a tree trunk. The Barronett Aluminum XL Blind Chair is rated to 400 lb at 4 lb, but its 18 in seat is set for hub-blind windows, not for leaning on a tree. Buyer's guide: picking a seat vest

How often will there be no good tree?

If the places you hunt have plenty of trees wider than your body, a cushion vest does the job for pounds less on your back. If you hunt field edges, fence rows and open timber, a kickstand or recliner earns its pounds.

Weigh the vest with the seat on it

Seat vests here run from 2 lb 6 oz (Traditions) to 7 lb 2 oz (Grand Slam with its frame), empty. The Grand Slam's frame comes off, so on a walking morning you can leave it home and carry 4 lb 10 oz.

Set the legs and the seat at home

The Grand Slam's kickstand legs are adjustable with fast-locking technology, and the TR18's spring-loaded legs adjust too. Set the height, sit with your gun on your knee, and practice deploying the seat quietly in the yard. The first time you unfold it shouldn't be with a gobbler answering.

Check fit before you check pockets

The Grand Slam fits waists to 58 in in X-Large, the Traditions to 61 in, and the Super Elite 4.0 chests to 52 in. The Impact Pro is one size with no range, the Impact stops at Standard, and the TR18 publishes no sizes, so read the listing's size details and return terms before you order.

The first-season mistake: carrying the frame everywhere

A kickstand feels like the most vest for the money. On a morning where you walk miles and sit against three good trees, it's 2 lb 8 oz of frame on your back that never touched the ground. Match the seat to the hunt, and take the frame off when you don't need it.
